Snark: to annoy or irritate

"Snark" has been in English language dictionaries since at least 1906, and Lewis Carroll used the word to describe a mythological animal in his poem, The Hunting of the Snark (1874). Most recently, the word has come to characterize snappish, sarcastic, or mean-spirited comments or actions directed at those who annoy or irritate us.

At first, this blog was just going be a place to gripe, but because it's more satisfying to take action than it is to merely complain, now most of the posts/reposts suggest ways to get involved in solving problems.

John Boehner's Right-Wing Agenda

A message from Democracy for America:
This week, John Boehner became Speaker of the House of Representatives -- and big banks, insurance companies and Wall Street lobbyists across the country surely rejoiced.

Boehner hadn't even taken the gavel yet when he'd already laid out an extreme right-wing agenda. It starts with a vote to repeal health insurance reform and includes gutting Social Security, making tax cuts for the rich permanent and more.

John Boehner's House will empower right-wingers like Michele Bachmann and Eric Cantor to roll back progressive legislation and empower big corporations over the middle class.

Let's just say what everyone already knows -- John Boehner's agenda has everything to do with embarrassing President Obama and nothing to do with creating jobs and getting America back on track.

The fight to take back the House starts now, so let's make this the shortest Republican majority in history.

Please contribute right now to fuel our fight to elect a progressive majority in 2012.

We're building our most aggressive program ever for 2012. We'll run ads, put staff on the ground, conduct polling, events, training -- everything it takes to beat back the corporate attack machine and elect a majority that works for the people, not big corporations. Contribute today to make it happen.

Thank you for everything you do.
