A message from Democracy for America:
What is the GOP's problem with Social Security?
The short answer: It works.
Republicans have spent years demonizing Social Security. They've been saying that Social Security is going broke for years, even though that it has paid out every benefit owed to every American for the past 75 years and, according to the Social Security Administration, has the ability to pay out every benefit owed to every American for the next 25 years.
Republicans keep saying that Social Security is bankrupting the country, even though the program is funded by the payroll tax and not the U.S. Treasury. Long story short -- Social Security hasn't added a dime to the deficit.
Republicans like to talk smack about Social Security because they want to scare Americans and turn Social Security into a multi-trillion-dollar taxpayer-funded Wall Street slush fund.
Join Sen. Bernie Sanders on DFA Live this Thursday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time and learn how you can take Republican talking points head-on and make Social Security safe, stable and secure for the next 75 years.
What is DFA Live?
DFA Live is a telephone town hall that puts you in touch with elected officials like Bernie to hear what's going in Washington from the people who see it up close. You can submit questions ahead of time or ask them live on the call.
Now, with Rick Perry calling Social Security a "ponzi scheme" and Republicans on the so-called "Super Committee" chomping at the bit to make huge, devastating cuts to the program, it's more important than ever that we hear exactly what's going in Washington and what we can do to help.
RSVP right now for DFA Live with Sen. Bernie Sanders.
I don't need to tell you that Bernie is a progressive champion. He doesn't shy away from tough fights. He takes on big corporations and fights for the poor and middle class. Now, this is your opportunity to hear from Bernie personally what you can do to help.
Thank you for everything you do.
