Snark: to annoy or irritate

"Snark" has been in English language dictionaries since at least 1906, and Lewis Carroll used the word to describe a mythological animal in his poem, The Hunting of the Snark (1874). Most recently, the word has come to characterize snappish, sarcastic, or mean-spirited comments or actions directed at those who annoy or irritate us.

At first, this blog was just going be a place to gripe, but because it's more satisfying to take action than it is to merely complain, now most of the posts/reposts suggest ways to get involved in solving problems.

Fake Democrats

A message from Democracy for America:
This is getting ridiculous. On Tuesday, four Republican activists tied to Scott Walker and the Wisconsin GOP submitted "Declarations of Candidacy" to run in the recall elections for State Senate...as Democrats!

According to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and leading election attorneys, these Republicans running as self-proclaimed "fake Democrats" are likely committing election fraud. At the very least, it's a sleazy, un-democratic gimmick that is set up to confuse and manipulate voters.

Help us fight back against "Fake Democrats" -- Contribute $12 today to the DFA Wisconsin Recall Campaign.
We've seen this before -- Republicans ran "fake Democrats" last summer to delay the recall process, and in doing so cost the state of Wisconsin over $500,000. This year, they aren't even trying to hide their motives. Scared of running on their failed policies that have killed public education funding, relegated women back to the 17th century, and made Wisconsin the worst in the country for job growth, they are doing the only thing they can do: delay the inevitable.

But DFA has a plan to combat this fraud with the largest ground game in our history. We'll knock on over 125,000 doors in 35 days; we'll make thousands of phone calls; we'll mobilize our more than 1 million members nationally and 25,000 members in Wisconsin to educate voters. And we'll be on the air with hard-hitting ads featuring personal stories of DFA members like you.

To make it all happen we're dedicating 8 full-time staff and 36 canvassers -- but this campaign is fully funded by small-dollar donors. Can you chip in $12 to make sure we have the resources to beat these "Fake Democrats" and Scott Walker on June 5th?
This fight is too important not to win. Please join us today.
