Snark: to annoy or irritate

"Snark" has been in English language dictionaries since at least 1906, and Lewis Carroll used the word to describe a mythological animal in his poem, The Hunting of the Snark (1874). Most recently, the word has come to characterize snappish, sarcastic, or mean-spirited comments or actions directed at those who annoy or irritate us.

At first, this blog was just going be a place to gripe, but because it's more satisfying to take action than it is to merely complain, now most of the posts/reposts suggest ways to get involved in solving problems.

Scary New "Leaders"

A message from:

This week, the most radically right-wing Congress in at least a generation will convene in Washington with an agenda chock full of special favors for corporate interests and the Religious Right at the expense of ordinary Americans and our fundamental rights. We are determined to take the fight to the Right and beat back their efforts to drag our country backwards.

We’re ready, thanks not only to your financial support but to your activism. I firmly believe that PFAW has the most committed and savvy online activists of any group, on the Left or the Right, and we’ll certainly need that commitment with what we expect the Far Right to throw at us during the upcoming Congress.

PFAW is in good fighting form and, with your support, we’ll be ready to take on the reactionaries in Congress who have the nerve to harp on job creation and deficits while they fight against policies that would stimulate the economy and push for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy ... who claim ownership of the Constitution while they fight to keep Americans from enjoying vital constitutional protections like equality and free expression.

For some reminders of why 2011 is so important, and why it’s so important that you’ve put us on good footing to deal with our present challenges, check out the following:

Thanks again, for all your support and all that you do.

Sincerely,
Michael B. Keegan signature
Michael Keegan, President
