Snark: to annoy or irritate

"Snark" has been in English language dictionaries since at least 1906, and Lewis Carroll used the word to describe a mythological animal in his poem, The Hunting of the Snark (1874). Most recently, the word has come to characterize snappish, sarcastic, or mean-spirited comments or actions directed at those who annoy or irritate us.

At first, this blog was just going be a place to gripe, but because it's more satisfying to take action than it is to merely complain, now most of the posts/reposts suggest ways to get involved in solving problems.

PAC Strategy for 2012

A message from PFAW:
It appears that virtually every Republican senator, representative and candidate is now in lockstep with the lunatics vying for the nation’s top office... all racing to rip giant holes in the safety nets, which have allowed a strong American middle class to prosper since they were introduced by concerned and progressive liberals like FDR...
2012 could well be the pivotal election of our lifetimes — the stakes here are enormous. The Tea Party and other Radical Right extremists are out to end Medicare and Medicaid as we know it... privatize Social Security...undermine women's reproductive health... and totally dismantle the EPA.

The Voters Alliance has already endorsed progressive champions like Elizabeth Warren (MA), Tammy Baldwin (WI) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (OH) in some of the most highly-contested, most-watched 2012 Senate races — races we must win if we are to finally overcome the unprecedented obstruction that Republicans continually employ in the Senate to thwart progress on jobs, the economy, equal rights and confirming judicial nominees.
Keep in mind:
  • It takes early money to help build support for progressive candidates. This base of funds is fundamental to the candidate’s ability to raise additional dollars on their own. Early money is the “yeast that makes the dough rise” as they say.
  • WE do the research so you don’t have to, identifying the best progressive candidates, educating voters as to why they’re the best choice and, of course, exposing the smear campaigns and lies of the Right. And with your help, we can change the electoral landscape for years to come.
  • In addition to offering direct support to candidates and mobilizing progressive voters, we’ll need to reach independents and swing voters with persuasion mail and paid advertising.
Thank you for standing with us once again... and for standing up to one of the most serious threats to the American Way in generations. Please make your online gift to support the important work of the PFAW Voters Alliance right now.
Sincerely,
