Snark: to annoy or irritate

"Snark" has been in English language dictionaries since at least 1906, and Lewis Carroll used the word to describe a mythological animal in his poem, The Hunting of the Snark (1874). Most recently, the word has come to characterize snappish, sarcastic, or mean-spirited comments or actions directed at those who annoy or irritate us.

At first, this blog was just going be a place to gripe, but because it's more satisfying to take action than it is to merely complain, now most of the posts/reposts suggest ways to get involved in solving problems.

Keep Affordable Care Act

Hands off my Obamacare!
Women are breaking an historic barrier. Because of the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare), when you get a new or renewed health insurance policy it must include FDA-approved contraceptives without any co-pays or decuctibles.
But to keep ACA, we must reelect President Obama. Remember Republican leaders have vowed to repeal it.
Plus, starting today all new insurance policies must cover women's preventive care without co-pays or deductibles, including:
  • An annual well woman preventive care visit with your doctor.
  • Screening for:
    • Gestational diabetes
    • STIs
    • HIV/AIDS
    • HPV
  • Screening and counseling for domestic violence.
  • Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling.
And since 2010, because of the ACA, many other adult preventive services like mammograms and colonoscopies, have been covered in new insurance plans without co-pays and deductibles.
We need your help to make sure ACA is not repealed. The best way to do this is to make sure President Obama is re-elected. Your contribution will help FeministsForObama.org reach hundreds of thousands of women with a message of moving forward – on their health care!
If more women knew about these new benefits, and took advantage of them, the result would be a dramatic increase in women's overall health, as well as fewer expenditures later on for conditions that could have been prevented.
For every woman FeministsForObama.org reaches through your support we will be one step closer to victory in November.
There is so much more to say about the Affordable Care Act. Remember the ACA eliminates discrimination against women in both insurance rates and benefits. No question it is a Title IX for women's health care.
Join Feminists for Obama and help us make sure women know what the benefits of the Affordable Care Act mean for millions of Americans and their families
